Conservative Adventist Schools?

Does anyone know of any conservative/fundamental Adventist schools, either academy or university?

I have a little boy who I'd like to send to the best Adventist school when the time comes. After I graduate this May, my family will be in the unique position to relocate (nearly) wherever we'd like.

The problem is this: What I've seen of the Adventist universities here in California, as well as the local academies, is that they're very liberal and worldly. I've heard Jim Gilley mention an Adventist school that he really likes (in his top-5, he said) but can't recall the name of it.

Anyway, if you have any suggestions, let me know. :-)

  1. I just came to your blog after my sister told me about it. I haven't had time to look it over yet but saw this question with no answers yet. I will suggest a school that I sent my kids to for a short time before they graduated that I was very happy with. Since then they have moved the school and I can't tell you for sure everything about it now. But I suspect it is much closer to what you are looking for than most of the alternatives. It is Laurelwood Academy and is now located in Eugene Oregon. If you need contact info I could probably find some for you.
I would also want to warn you about getting into some schools that initially look very appealing for conservatives but in the end produce fruit of subtle legalism that will take years to undo. I myself went to such schools and also sent my own kids there. It was for that reason that I later sent them to Laurelwood because I was impressed with their balance, sincerity and spirituality. I hope that is still true.

  2. Who's your sister? Thank her for spreading the message! I need all the help I can get.

You know, Laurelwood sounds so familiar to me, is it near Mission College of Evangelism? My wife and I went to Mission College for a brief time a couple years ago, it's also in Oregon. I will definitely look it up, and thank you for the advice! It is such a huge issue to me.

God bless you and keep you!

  3. If I am correct, Mission College took up residence on the old campus where Laurelwood resided for many years. Laurelwood moved to Eugene from their previous location outside of Portland.

  4. Oh that was such a beautiful campus. I remember we'd walk up behind the school and sit on the big...uhh...water reservoir? And look over the campus and the surrounding hills, so lush and gree. I loved that place!

  5. It doesn't have the best past but things have improved greatly. Weimar Academy in California, is a great school to look into.

  6. I've heard many wonderful things about Fountain View Academy, but it is in Canada. I myself have been looking for a good conservative though spiritually balanced elementary school.

  7. I attended Fountainview Academy in British Columbia, Canada, and can personally say that it is a fairly conservative, spiritual, yet balanced Adventist school. Their primary mission is outreach, and the main method is through music. And students are encouraged to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus as well as share their faith and growth with others. I had a wonderful experience, and made friends that I will have for a lifetime.
